Something is going seriously squiffy with one of my SQL 2000 databases and I don't know why.

Each of the live databases has a .mdf and .ldf file. Now on one of the databases the .ldf file is ridiculously big.

The .mdf is 2GB and the .ldf is 18GB !

I just backed up the database and the .ldf file grew another 2GB so it seems like it's adding the data to the log file every time I back it up. I thought the backups were supposed to shrink the log files?

Please please please tell me I've missed something simple cos I'm gonna run out of storage on the server soon and then I'll really be in the ****.

Just wanted to say thanks.

Truncating the log then shrinking it in Query Analyser worked a treat.

Strange that it wouldn't do it from inside Enterprise Manager, when I tried from there the log stayed the same size.

All's good now and I can stop *****ing myself that my test server's going to blow up. :):):)
