What are people's thoughts on this? I'm getting hold of the private preview through work and it will certainly be interesting for us.

Thoughts on who it's aimed at? Enterprises? Millennials? They're certainly going after Oracle but I can't help feel there's more to it than just that. And of course with the explosion of Docker, running Azure sql instances in a linux container suddenly halves Microsoft's running costs.

Will be interesting to see what comes of it.

Oh you mean MS SQL Server.

Makes no difference to me. Seems pretty logical though considering how widely used Linux is on servers. Especially web servers.

I'd expect a massive improvement in performance... unless they have somehow hampered it.

The main bottleneck with MS SQL is the MS file system it's forced to run on, so this should be a decent improvement.

Do you think Azure gets cross charged for MS windows licenses?

With Linux userland coming to windows, and MSSQL going to Linux, MS are having quite a strategy change.

Windows 11 will be a Linux distro!
