SQL Problem

Just realised that my thread in General Hardware should be here...here's a copy.

Hi,

Don't know if anyone can help but I'm trying to install some software that uses an SQL server database.

I had an error which cause a blue-screen of sorts when installing SQL 2005, I installed the hot fix which should fix it.

But,

When I try and install this software again, is say's the database is already there, but if I select 'use an existing database server' it say's it can't find it..(it uses a default database name, which you can't change even if you select Install a new database server, so no chance of just installing a new one with a different name).

So, my question is - Where in windows xp do you find all of the installed, or not, databases?

I've tried installing SQL 2005 express, and then going into SQL Server Configuration Manager, but the database name isn't there. I've also been into services and msconfig and it isn't there either.

My thought is that maybe the database does exist, but isn't linked to any server..but is still causing the new installer to think that it's there.

Any help would be much appreciated!! Been trying to install this damn thing all afternoon!

Cheers,

Chris

P.s MODS feel free to close which ever one is in the wrong place...sorry, has been a long day!!

Hi,

Thanks for taking the time to reply:)

I used the Studio Express software and, after lots of fun managed to create a database which the software seems happy with.

Cheers again,

Chris
