For backing up SQL Server I take a daily backup, which is stored offline, but also during the day I take 15 minute incremental TLOG backups.

I am currently using BackupAssist to take these backups, however backup assist only allows 1 backup to be run at one time, so when my daily server backup is taken, the SQL backups are queued for 2 hours.

Do people generally just use SQL server agent for backing up? Is it possible to get SQL to email backup reports?

Advise on best practice would be great.

We used RedGate. Fulls every day with TLog varying between 15 / 30 / 60 minutes depending on the tier of the server.

Really need to start mirroring. Thinking about moving away from the cluster next year and just mirroring to the other box.

Currently I use i365 plug n protect units with the SQL plugin. Which takes snaps of the DBs and the .ldfs and bungs them offsite. Though these don't run much more than every 4 hours as the app doesnt' really make use of Transaction log so it's sort of accepted an amount of data will be lost in the event of major issue.

If you need backups as regular as every 15 mins or less you're probably better off keeping a hot replica off site and routinely snapping that.
