Havent played this game in a looooong time, seen its now been upgraded to ue5, anyone played since the update? how is the game now? does it run ok in ue5 engine?

Thanks

Ah..
Not sure what to tell you.

You can have great fun playing Squad, but in my experience the same bad things is a reoccuring issue. I would say it is a dev/management thing, not UE5 related.
Example: You drive on a road, a paved road.. and your vehicle becomes stuck, "half sunk" into the ground. Unsure if this has been fixed at all in 2026.

So many annoying things that bug me personally, but unreated to say UE5 and ICO (infantry combat overhaul).

With an Rtx 5090 card, I have no idea if the UE5 game engine is more taxing than before.
Maybe someone more clever than I can give you some feedback about the technical aspects of Squad w. UE5 game engine.

For anyone reading this not being familiar with this 50 vs 50 multiplayer game, I recommend the following:
Buy, and use a microphone to communicate with.
Play on the same one or few servers you think there are decent players on.
Ah right, don't/never start a squad unless you intend to be a squad leader.

This game is amazing, about 2% of the time

98% of matches start with good intentions and a nice, solid plan. Everyone's chatty and bang up for it, then the first firefight happens, chaos everywhere, you get murked, ask squad lead to put a deploy point down, he says to wait, you wait, you wait some more, you get bored of waiting and respawn at base. Five seconds later squad lead announces he's put the spawn point down, fantastic. The next 10 minutes are spent walking across the map to reach the rest of the squad. Just as you get there, the rest of the squad dies along with the respawn point. Now you're stuck by yourself in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do but wait for the rest of the squad to turn up.

At this point, the initially enthusiastic squad lead seems to have lost all enthusiasm. He now sounds terminally depressed and is questioning his life choices. He talks less and less until a few minutes later, he quits and joins another squad. Naturally, you are then automatically assigned as the new squad lead, because of course. You ask if anyone else wants to do it, but are greeted by radio silence, followed by a couple more players quitting the squad, your soul departs your body. Now there's just you and some awkward American boomer who's having a domestic over the mic with his wife. You leave the squad and join the only other open squad which consists of the same people who quit your previous squad, the cycle repeats.

I'm deffo downloading this after that review!

Its excellent when its excellent. Nothing quite like it really except the old Project Reality that birthed it [nostalgia goggles here, doesn't have the feel of Project Reality blah blah].

Just need to join a good server [generally a military one] that isn't full of deadbeats who don't know how to follow orders but I guess that is basically the nature of all pvp online shooters.

I need to play it more.
