High guys, I recently got an 8800gtx and all has been fine for days, now I have just stuck in a new 1TB hard drive and now i think its the gfx but something is squeaking when powering off, i have read that there is a problem with 8800 cards and some psu's (im guessing it might be some kind of low power warning) now the problem is I have removed all Hard drives (and pretty much everything else) and the bugger still squeaks (basically it can only be the 8800gtx or psu) my PSU is a 535w enermax (a bit low for this card I know hoping to change that soon)

what do you guys reckon?

Is it just at the moment you turn it off? Unless you're getting errors or crashes then I wouldnt worry about it. The low power warning problem is well documented and from what i understand it is nothing serious.

PK!

it runs absolutely fine, even in full 3d games no noise silent as a mouse, then hit shutdown, hard drives power down and just a second before it goes "completely off" it squeaks, I doubt its anything serious but its bloody annoying :D

yeah but what I want to know is why its doing it when I have removed all other components (well the ones I can anyway) it didnt do it until I plugged the new HDD in?

Not a fujitsu drive is it?
I used to have quite a small fujitsu which caused (though $DEITY only knows how) a noise like a jet engine winding down to come out the speakers every time I powered off. Deeply weird.
I assumed it was the motor acting as a dynamo as it slowed down with no input power, but how the hell that signal found a way to be audible I will never know.

no, seagate, and ive unplugged ALL drives and dvd drive turn on PC, turn off pc, (beofre its even done anything) and squeak. :(

My gtx does this, apparently its because the power is stopped on the graphics card before the mobo has lost power so the graphics card detects no power and tells you about it :) Nothing wrong just annoying :p

Maybe a tiny hamster was living in that new harddrive, and when you put it in your new system it popped its head out and decided your graphics card looked like a much nicer place to live. Its now so happy, every time it hears you switch off the machine it squeaks at you to say thanks.

Yes, I am having a very boring day at work.

PK!
