Just run into the first little problem on my car since I got it.

Basically when stationary or at low speeds, moving the steering wheel produces a squeaking sound which is more audible from outside the car. A similar noise also appears when going over speed bumps or uneven roads. Actually quite embarrasing when parking or like, turning corners... :p

I think the sound is coming from both the front wheels as I got someone to turn the wheel while I listened around. Doesn't seem to be coming from anywhere inside the engine bay...at least as far as I can tell.

I've not had chance to jack the car up and take a look yet, but some folks over at PreludeUK have had similar problems and referred to dry ball joints or cv joints.

Has anyone come across a similar thing before, what is it likely to be and how difficult is it to fix?

Cheers :)

Had a similar problem with my Accord last week. Turned out to be a split cv boot. Grease was everywhere but on the joint.

Thanks for the reply :)

Straightforward enough to replace the cv boot?

If the cv boot is dry the cv joint is dead.

Get some silicone spray and do the ball joints first of all.

Also check the top mounts - make sure they're done up properly.
