Hi,

I noticed randomly a squeaking/whistling sound coming from my desktop. I turned off the speakers but I still hear it ever now and again.

I am not 100% but I think it might be coming from the Corsair GS600 PSU.

Does anyone know how I can fix it or if they are faulty?

Thanks

I took the side panel off and when it did it again I am 90% sure it is coming from the PSU.

It does it for about 10 seconds then stops, then randomly appears after a couple of minutes.

It was only started doing it today.

My PSU fan rarely spins. It spins upon power on for around 5 seconds then stops and only goes on again if I am heavily gaming.

When the noise happens the fans aren't spinning no.

I followed the link you posted and disabled the C1E, EIST and C1/C5 and so far I haven't heard it come back. If it does I will remove the graphics card and try again but when you hear it the sound was definitely coming from the PSU.

Ok I went into Borderlands 2 to test and the high pitch noise isn't there but there is some noise, a slightly duller one coming from the case.

Loaded Saints Row 3 and it also started making the noise, I am not sure if its PSU or GFX card.

Sounds like chirpy coils for sure.

Have you tried running 3DMark? During the first two demos you hit insanely high FPS; this was making my graphics card chirp a bit for a while. With use over a few days the sound went away completely.

The PSU is less than a month old (as is the whole computer).

Where abouts in the CCC is the V-sync option, I couldn't see it.

Gaming tab - 3D application setting - Frame rate control.

There you will see "wait for vertical refresh" options.

Okay I have enabled that and we will see about the noise.

Does enabling v-sync reduce gaming performance or improve?

Also I noticed when I right click the CCC at my tray icon I have 6 x ATI Radeon 7870 and 3 x Intel HD Graphics.... why is there so many?

Right it was silent then when I ran Saints Row 3 the noise started. It is weird to explain its not as high pitched as it first sounded it sounds more like a dull version of what a tattoo needle sounds like (if that's any help). A vibration with a slight squeak about it.

Sorry for another post but I got a bit of a breakthrough....

I took out the ATI Radeon 7870 and tried loading the game with the Intel HD graphics and NO noise :)

I then put the graphics card back in and loaded the game, and the noise WAS back :(

So its got to be something to do with the graphics card.

Is there anything I should change in the settings? I just don't get why it was working fine and now its not without any changes happening what so ever.

Many GFX cards make noises such as you have.

It almost seems to me that Nvidia/ATI (or whoever makes the card) are using cheaper and cheaper parts, I'm sure I never had this sort of thing in older generation cards.

I guess it depends on how bad it actually is? if it's annoying you then RMA the card and hope the replacement isn't as bad.

Its weird though since it was working fine before.

Although the noise happens when the graphics card is in, I am pretty sure the actually squeaking noise is coming from the PSU.

Is there anything I should do in terms of power voltage etc to see if something there is causing it?

I ran borderlands 2 there again to see and when it started doing it the sound actually sounded as if something was dying inside the PSU :(

I may have another spare PSU I could test with but what wattage would I need for the specs in my signature?

Ok I will see if I can dig one out to test.

The noise almost sounds like the old 56k modems, an annoying high pitch but not as loud as the actual modems themselves.
