Squeaky Brakes

Got a new Peugeot 208 last May and have noticed recently breaks are 'squeaky' when applying a small amount of pressure (if I push harder on the break there's no squeaking).

The car was bought new and has only done about 4,500 miles since I've had it, surely the breaks aren't gone already?

I'll have to get it serviced soon as It'll be approaching 1 year end of may, also on that topic does it particularly matter when I get it serviced? I'm on PCP which would require servicing every year, but I don't imagine it matters if you service it at 11 months vs 12 months, as long as it's within the 12 month so you don't break their warranty/agreement for PCP?

My Audi's done it for a while now, as with you only on light braking. Unless you want to dismantle everything, just live with it.

To be honest - as long as you follow the service plan, I think that is all they ask? If you've only done 4,500 miles this year, does it need servicing - a lot of other cars manufacturers say once every 10-15k or every 2 years. It'll tell you in your service book.

RE: the brakes being squeaky - they probably just need a bit of anti squeal paste on the back of them. Or just give them a few hard stops and that may clear it. My fronts have just started squealing a small amount too and I was just planning on whipping the pads out and lubing the backs of them up.

I believe it's 1 year or 12,000 miles, I have the a 2 year service schedule with Arnold Clark anyway. I'll confirm that tomorrow when I look at the book.

I've tried a few hard stops, I notice usually if I do a hard stop it'll quit squeaking for the rest of that journey, but after it's sat for a few hours and I'm out again it's back squeaking.

With regards to warranty/PCP terms, do they care when it's done (i.e. 1 year exactly would be end of May, does it matter if my 12 month service is done on 11 months (say start of May/end of April), or days into the 12th month?), I'd imagine they won't care if it's done on 11 months but would if its over 12 but I just don't want to get shafted when I go to return the car and take out a new PCP and they charge me due to servicing not being on time.
 
Small amount of copper grease on the front pad retaining clip's, check the front caliper sliders and see if they move freely if not take them out and grease them with silicone grease as it does not perish rubber.

If this fails brake hard a few times (60mph - 20mph emergency stops, do it at night lol) get the pads up to temp to put some 'pad surface' onto the disk's.

Failing that you can buy backing pads from EBC, but this is only really needed with high iron content pads. As said above they could just be cheap disks and pads, which should be fixed with the 1st and 2nd point of my post. Considering you got the car from Arnold Clarke then I'm betting they are cheap budget pads and disks, they have to make a profit some way.

Lol you would be surprised how many people cant be arsed to follow procedure and get sloppy when building a car on a day to day basis. After working several years doing the same thing; it happens. After 4,500 miles I would replace anyway due to the break in period along with oil and filter. Nowadays due to the EU reg's (tier 4) people are cutting corners any way they can to make profit, especially on mainstream cars. As for OP then do it yourself and learn, finance is a mugs game, tally up the 'points / interest' and the value of the car in the finance time. You will end up thousands out of pocket. I did this with a phone back in the day and was shocked.

Btw you don't lube the back of the pads, as the piston / pistons surface just pushes it out of the way under pressure and the squeal continues. All that happens is you end up with a load of gunk inside your caliper pistons, which is hard to clean off.

Sounds like they just need a good clean and ensure there aren't any high spots on the disc.

The only thing I lube nowadays is the sliders, everything else is just cleaned up and left dry. A lot less messy and zero squeaks...

Do you go to carwashes that spray the wheels and brakes with acid?
BTW, coppaslip is specifically prohibited for use on brake components by pretty much all motor vehicle manufacturers these days.
