I have this wierd squealing noise, something like a capitator whine on my 6850. Now the strange thing is... this only happens in one game; Minecraft. And it only does it when I'm in the options or world select list. Everything else is fine ingame and other games, even when running a stress program like Furmark the card is silent (apart from the fan). This is confusing me, why is it making a squealing noise ONLY in the options/world list? Should I be worried?

I've got a similar problem with my 6950. From what I have read it's nothing to worry about, it is just an annoyance. A lot of cards, both AMD and Nvidia seem to have this issue atm.

Enabling vsync seems to help a little....

squealing noise is normal????
I never recall seeing in the booklet.... "you may hear a squealling noise coming from the graphics card every now and then, on certain games, but this is perfectly normal"..

the only time its normal for a graphics card to squeal, is if its under powered, then a buzzer will sound to alert you of this.. Like when the PCI-E power cables havent been connected. etc.

There are quite a lot of mentions of squealing of graphics cards on different forums, seems to be something to do with a coil or capacitor.
Mine has done it on rare occasions, not neccessarily when under a great load

I think about half of the cards that I have owned have squealed to some extent. Cheap caps is the problem, but I have never had a card go wrong because of it.

then replace the caps.
Solid state caps are piece of pie to change, no certain polarity, just solder them on, sorted.
you can pick decent caps up for like 30p each...
I think id rather pay like £3 - 4 than hear an anoying noise.

and ahhh great, ive got something nice to look forward to, ive just ordered myself 2x 6850's......
