I have an Antec TruePower New Modular 650W Power Supply that squeals when the system is running a game, anyone else have this problem and should I think about returning it for another?. The noise is definitely coming from the psu not the graphic card or mobo. It sounds like coil whine not the fan. The system did not make this noise when my old [died on me] corsair 620w psu was fitted.
system consists of
AMD 965 x4
GtX 275 Golden Sample
Msi 790FX-GD70
X-Fi
4 GB ram

Is it only in game, Might be worth running prime to put load on the CPU and see if it still make a noise.

no don't be worried it is normal for some psu to squeal. i think it's something to do with capacitors (maybe someone can shed a bit more light on this).

it's the capacitors yeh, clashing frequencies etc. you'd think in this day and age it can be avoided. the PSU will be fine and is not faulty however you are fully entitled to return it. what pc case you have? If possible (PC Case permitting) flip the psu other way round and it goes away sometimes.

I've returned a few corsairs for having horrible noises before :P it's pretty much bad luck.

Mine does this from time to time, I never could be bothered sending it back though as its pretty rare and never lasts long. It should be fine but send it back if you want

The case is an Antec P160 so not able to flip it really [it would be trying to pull warm air down as it is the warm air rises into the psu's fan] . I sorted a rma pickup for Monday now so I will see how it goes, Interesting to hear of the same trouble with Corsair psu's, my old one was silent until it popped, nearly got another but got this one instead due to good revues it got

my last corsair TX950, was absolutely terrible. crazy noises if speedstep enabled, and even disabled, in ALL games it would have a high pitch squeal, which incidently got much louder in game menu's. very loud in crysis menu :O RMA'd. it can happen with any PSU's really.

NZXT hale90 dead silent, ~35db

antec truepower is decent :)
