Ok guys, my car, which i have recently taken on is starting to make a squeeking noise. I have heard it on loads of cars around town before but want to know what it is and how much it will got me to get fixed.

It happens when

1) I start the car and put my foot down a bit to warm her up
2) When accelerating
3) When using the engine to break (changing down a gear at junctions etc and engine is pulling car back)

Is this the fan belt? I haven't had the bonnet up yet as it was only noticeable last night and this morning, both of which times it was dark.

I can, maybe do a sound recording of the noise later if it would help you...

It sounds like the fan belt, it might need adjusting or replacing. Even if it needs replacing it shouldnt cost much.

If its just the belt, it should cost £10 from a motorfactors and maybe 20mins to fit it.

It sound be, ive not done it on your particular car but I cant imagine it being hard. You can sometimes adjust the position of the alternator to take up tension of the belt. Even if it needs replaced its usually just take the old one off and put the new one on.

normaly just loosen the adjustor nut, move altenator to tighten belt and tighten nut, same if ure replaceing, de adjust replace , adjust

Gonna go for a fag break now so will have a look at the belt and if i can see where the noise is coming from. might take a sound recording of it too....
