Hi I have a Logitech Squeezebox and now Win 7 as my OS

Previously I had Win XP through my squeezebox and it all worked fine.

2 x hard drives in PC, (C) for OS etc and (K) for MP3, video, pictures etc.

Squeezebox wont pick up my mp3's

I have told it exactly where my mp3's are stored. (as when I had XP)

It just wont play them, the files are there, I can play them on the computer fine.

I think it has perhaps something to do with file sharing in Win 7 as I have been playing around with things and now I am stuck.

In XP, you right clicked and choose 'share'

Win 7, appears to be like that, but it aint happening.

hopefully someone can help here. Searched the net, still not sure.

Thanks.

Squeeze box never worked with Win 7, but only had it about a month on the pc.

I think I have played now with a lot of file settings for sharing within win 7, dont know if it can be reset and if so how ?

I also have latest update of squeezebox server.

Sounds like permissions, are both the share and security permissions on the folder set to enable the squeezebox access? I hate suggesting this but you could try setting the security on both to "everyone" to see if it works - then look for a way to restrict access. If it does work, don't leave it on "everyone" as it's rather insecure should anyone get access to your network :)

yes Jbloggs. Many times and alas still nothing. The mp3 folder is still there and working fine. Just squeezebox does not want to find it, or add it

Also seem to have a padlock on folders, bottom left, on some and not on some.

Like I said I played around with security tabs and sharing tabs, still nothing.

I am the only user on here. No one else at home to touch the computer.

Using Win 7 Ultimate, I presume as I am the only user I am admin ?

I assume that your squeezebox can find and connect to the win7 pc as the server... if you browse via "Music Folders" can you see any of your mp3s?

I don't understand why you're setting up windows folder shares - you can do this, and then point sb server to the network UNC, but this adds complexity and you're more likely to run into permission problems. Most people who have the mp3 files on the same pc as sb server probably just set the music folder to point to c:\whatever.

If you remain stuck could I suggest posting on forums.slimdevices.com as they are a pretty helpful bunch there.

Yes the SB finds the pc, know on the SB (squeezebox) where the folder is. Cant see any music through "music folders" on SB.

Just wondered if there was a way of resetting anything i have messed up on win 7 due to sharing and security playing with those settings.

Found this post on the net, which seemed to have helped. All sorted now. God knows what I did, think i messed with permissions, sharing, security to much within win 7, which screwed things up.

I had the padlock on a folder after trying to share it with the Homegroup feature. Apparenlty if you remove the HomeUser group from having Read & Execute permission to a folder the lock overlay will appear

And I found this fix on another forum so I will include it here. It sorted me out ok.

You can remove the lock overlay in this case by resetting the permissions to be inherited, and removing all permissions that are not inherited.
Right click the folder, click Properties
Click the Security tab
Click Advanced
Click Change Permissions
Check Both boxes to Include inheritable permissions, and to Replace all child object permissions
Click Apply then click Yes
Wait for the list to refresh
Remove all permissions that say <not inherited>
