Hello am looking at buying an ssd for using Intel's smart response. I already have windows installed and setup with all games and that so a re-install I dont want to be doing, can I cache a ssd without having to re-install windows? has anyone here done it?

Thanks

You have a mechanical disk and you wish to add an SSD as a cache drive to the already existing mechanical disk with windows on it?

yes you can do it this way, what you cant do is have windows on the SSD and then add the mechanical disk later

Yes windows is on my 2TB Hard drive, and I will need to enter bios and set sata to raid mode. But I do not want to re-install windows mainly because all my games.
If I install the SSD and set sata to raid mode will windows still boot so I can enable the SSD caching.

yes do the reg tweak, this lets you install the raid drivers

then install the raid drivers, dont reboot pc untill youve installed drivers after doing reg tweak or it will wreck your bootup

once installed raid drivers then reboot into bios and set to raid, boot into windows/reboot add ssd boot back into windows and enable ssd acceleration on your hdd in intel rapid storage console in bottom right of taskbar and that should be it,give it a few days to work at full speed due to it filling up the 60gb with most used data ect

Sorry one last thing where to I get the raid driver from? on my motherboard support page I can only download SATA RAID Driver (For system to read from floppy diskette during Windows installation)

Thanks

I thought windows 7 didn't need raid drivers. as they come with the operating system, XP had a option to install them from a floppy disc when you start windows installation, you should be able to enable the RAID in the bios. on boot up push control + I and create a new raid volume
