Hello all, I was defraging my spare drives and noticed my SSD in the list, I can understand that you cant defrag as its got the trim feature but I decide to use the Analyze disk button being curious.

Anyway I was surprised after it done its stuff the result was 31% Fragmentated

Is this a problem ? something not quite right ?

I check the Trim and it appears to be enabled

Cheers

Fragmentation isn't a issue for SSD's. As there are no moving parts it can access data anywhere in less than 1ms. Fragmentation is actually good for SSD's as it helps to keep wear even which helps the SSD live longer.

TRIM has nothing to do with defragmentation.

The point is that, as shine said, the fact that there's no moving parts means it doesn't matter where the data are when they're read (or written to). The other thing is that the data are never in the place that the OS thinks they are anyway, due to the SSD's wear levelling. So, the defragmenter's analyser is lying to you.

In short, DO NOT DEFRAGMENT SSDs!
