SSD drive in MacBook Pro

Hi All,

I am considering getting a Macbook Pro in the new year and was slightly dissapointed to see the speed of the HDD that it comes with.

One of the options I am considering is installing an SSD drive, however my main concern here is the lack of capacity.

Is it possible to keep the stock HDD in the system for extra storage and install an small SSD to run the OS on? Or is there not enough room in the chassis for that?

Thanks

Only way to have two drives is to take out the optical drive and fit something like an Optibay to mount the second drive.

I've had an SSD+Hard Disk set up on all of my Macbook Pros - unbeatable combination.

You do it by removing the optical drive and replacing it with a tray and hard disk. You can read about it on my blog here.

What is the SSD of choice at the moment for the MacBook Pro, I am going to swap out the standard one on my 15" MBP for an SSD, which is the best for performance?

I ran an Intel X25-M 80GB (basically the 2nd gen intel ssd range) in my 2010 15" MBP and it was phenomenal. I'm sure someone will be along soon to recommend an even better one, but I do believe its the crucial M4 that is reccomended these days.

I've been using a Crucial M4 since April, with the latest firmware update it is very speed and makes the MBP fly!
