SSD for 2007 MBP 17"

Am I right in thinking the 2007 MBP will have a 1.5Gbit SATA interface thus pricier SSDs with (reportedly) huge bandwidth won't be able to stretch their legs?

Closing in on purchase time. Will be writing up a fool-proof guide for people in a similar position to myself.. Just a few points I'd like to clarify with anyone in the factual know:

- Does the drive require a pre-format? I'm assuming SL (Snow Leopard) goes through this on install?
- I've read that OSX doesn't support Firmware updates? Will this really be an issue?
- Are the issues with no TRIM support on OSX going to significantly effect the life-cycle of the SSD.
- Or is it just a case of man-up and make the purchase?

TIA

You just need to format it to HFS+(journaled) with disk utility before running the installer.

Firmware updates can be run using boot camp.

Trim support isn't as important with MacOSX but you can ata-secure erase every 6 months if you really want to.

Buy.

Just a little update. I installed an OCZ Vertex 2 120GB on the Friday it took me 25 minutes to install then another 20 or so for SL install. First impressions.. EPIC! Very quick, will be putting it through it's paces with the Adobe CS5 suite. Should speed up productivity for sure! More lengthy report and install guide to come. Cheers
