SSD for OS?

I'm currently putting together a new rig based around a core i7 920.

I was considering getting a small SSD (60Gb) for the operating system only but wondered what the consensus on here was.

Should I simply get a decent 320/500Gb drive and use a partition for the OS? What benefits, if any would I see from say a 60Gb SSD?

I was going to use SSD's a couple of months ago but read too many bad things about them, so raid'd a couple of raptors instead.

SSD's are really fast, check out vids on youtube, but seems like you have to be lucky to get them working well and if you spend all that money on them, you dont want probs.

though I have not read up on them in the last few months, maybe things have started to changed?

remember the SSd would have to hold the OS, updates and service packs..i dont think that the SSD's are large enough yet.

Thanks, been reading a little more since and I think I will steer away at the moment and just buy a decent Samsung or something similar..

Can always add one later when prices drop a little.

60Gig not large enouugh for just the OS, updates and service packs.? :eek:

Yeah, I think I'm going to go with a 320 or 500Gb Samsung F1 and partition about 100Gb for the OS...

why partition it then, if you have no plans to install more than 1 os.? :confused:

cant you just keep it as one whole drive for your os and media.?
