Hi guys, I recently built my PC and have a 240GB SSD and 1TB HDD in it. When I open My Computer I only see the Local C drive which has 191GB of 222GB free. Is this my SSD? How can I also see my HDD?

Ok I think I've got the HDD formatted. Is the C drive my SSD? I bought a 240GB SSD but my C drive only has 222GB, of which 191 is free. So I'm not sure if this is my SSD, or how to see my SSD if it is not? (So far I've installed Windows and downloaded one small game from Steam)

Yes the C drive will be your SSD. you always lose a bit of space when formatting, plus windows takes a big chunk.

As a guide my 4tb hd only shows as 3.7gb when empty.

240gb is the unformatted space. You never get this much space formatted. Imagine having a massive cabinet with no shelves. The internal space of the cabinet represents the unformatted space of the SSD ie 240gb. Nice big space but you cant put anything in it tidily as you have no shelves. Fit the cabinet with shelves so you can store items you lose some of the internal space to the shelves but this is the same as when you format a SSD it appropriates a small space to arrange itself so you can correctly store files hence why it reports slightly less space.

A large part of the difference used to be the conversion between GB and GiB, and I assume it still is.

With small drives the difference wasn't significant. When you have hundreds of GB, or even TB, it makes a very noticeable difference.

Thanks guys, really helpful. I downloaded a game from Steam, I presume IT saved it automatically to the SSD? How can I tell, and if I wanted to move it to the HDD, how would I do it?

If you haven't formatted your HDD and given it a drive letter, nothing can be stored there. By you or automated installers.

You also need to configure Steam if you want it to store games elsewhere, so for now you should assume the game is on your SSD.

You can set up a second library folder on Steam, and at instal time it lets you select which one to download/install to. It also lets you move games from one library to another, which is really convenient. You can keep games you're playing on the SSD and keep others aside until later in the HDD.

I think you're right - when I downloaded it I hadn't formatted the HDD so it must be saved on the C/SSD drive.
