Finally managed to convince a client to go with SSD in their client pcs. Just rolling out some hp i5 3.2ghz, 4gb ddr3 ram, 60gb kingston v300 and gigabit to server infrastructure, Windows 7 64bit.

Have to say its runs great, boots to desktop in no time and starting outlook and word with all the addons starts up instantly. :D

Don't know why anyone is foolish enough to go with under spec clients when they can go with this sort of spec for only £450 per pc.

Users are going to love IT now.

Kingston Guarantee

Three-year Kingston warranty, free technical support

HP

There is the standard hp warranty that comes with any hp sff pc. It comes with 2 year 3 day replacement of faulty part, is what we have.

I like the kingston website as it has a business section which you can show to people who might want to purchase them in business.

faster than my home pc

We have been rolling out HP business desktops with 120gb SSD drives for a year now. They make a huge difference for log on times and general performance. The only problem is we have several hundred spare SATA drives :p

It would have been easier yes but I don't think our supplier does them without the drives. I don't decide any of that and they can be useful to have them laying around.

Which model HP are they please?
Currently looking at a refresh and sound like an interesting option, to the usual mechanical drive.

Then it would be wise to change the supplier. Gosh what a waste!

It's nothing. Have you done any work with government bodies?! How about a ROOM full of IronKey flash drives, circa £150+VAT each, some 500 of them, sat idle. Bought for people who aren't allowed data offsite nor need it in the first place :o IT buyer just shrugs shoulders.

Often when dealing with big companies, it's more hassle than it's worth to customise boxes. I've seen machines arrive in a certain place and have drives and GPU stripped out and basically binned

Then it would be wise to change the supplier. Gosh what a waste!

When you're shackled into a Government Procurement Service framework with 20+ other organisations that's not always an option. ;)

On the flipside, a couple of the laptops on the list we're paying just over half the manufacturers "discounted" web price for.
