SSD in game freezing

King
For me it happens on all games on both my drives if the operating system is on the SSD, I put my operating system back on my mechanical drive and the problem went away. I have not tried the operating system on mechanical drive and games on SSD yet but to me this is not what i wanted to do in the first place so I think ill be RMA,ing my SSD

No, it's definately the drive.

If I play an mp3 and then browse the internet the pausing is greatly reduced but it still does it. It also stutters doing basically anything, clicking on icons, opening folders, scrolling a web page all have a chace to have a 1 second stutter/pause.

why do those regedits when you can just uninstall the intel rst? It seems to barely affect its performance anyways.

because the chipset enables it by default, so to stop the stuttering I had to install the Intel RST drivers, then add the registry hack to disable the LPM and it now works as it should.

This is not a permanent fix, but it goes to show that it's Crucials' problem and they need to pull their finger out and get it sorted so we can re-enable LPM and get normal performance.

And as and update from last night, I've been using the machine for a few hours this morning and all is well with no stuttering at all. :)

I may have found a solution to this (for me at least)

Have a look at the original post of this thread, primarily at the intel driver update part of it. I was updating my intel drivers but it would appear that most were not actually updating for some reason (they were still showing as 2006)

I followed the directions posted here for updating intel drivers and it has improved thing greatly

Does everyone with C300 and 0006 firmware have this issue?

Mine came with this firmware already on, haven't noticed anything as you described yet.

Can't say I've seen anything like it. Neither of my c300's (64gb) which have both been used as game drives have shown anything like this. They run mainly Steam based games and they've always scooted along just fine. Other non steam games work well too like Mass Effect and Mount and Blade.

Sorry to throw a spanner in the trouble shooting, but that's the way with these things. ;)

Great news. There will be a new firmware for C300 that addresses and corrects the version 0006 issue. Just anounced on Crucial forum. New firmware will be available in late April 2011.

Strange

Could this be whats happening to me in BFBC2 ? , i also have a SSD but a patriot 60GB

Is your Patriot SSD based on Marvel C300 controller? If not, it doesn't have anything to do with your SSD.

Great news. There will be a new firmware for C300 that addresses and corrects the version 0006 issue. Just anounced on Crucial forum. New firmware will be available in late April 2011.

I hope it's not an April Fools' kind of news...

On topic, my C300 would not work at all without Intel Rapid Storage Technology installed. I've got MSI P55-GD65 board and use Intel P55 Sata II controllers. On default drivers it would do long freezes every few seconds to every few minutes. By long I mean anything from a few seconds to a few minutes - basically unusable. Was slightly better before I started messing about with chipset drivers but finally ended up with the latest RST and everything works just fine (despite low 4k results in AS SSD and Crystal Mark).

ATTO gives me brilliant results and I'm more than happy with the drive.

I wish Crucial would release 0007 firmware for it though.

Got mine today and realized after 15 mins it was faulty. While playing heroes of newerth it studders for about 5 secs every 10 mins or so.. 64gb/0006 version

We'll see but I have a feeling it will only partially fix it. It looks like "Solution: C300 Disk Freeze-ups in Windows 7 solved for me" seems to have done the trick.

How long has this fault been going on for? Can't believe I haven't heard of it before.

i still have my C300 in the hope that the new firmware will sort the problem out, but im running on my spinpoint until then, i have the crucial forum post on my favorites and will post when the new firmware is released (im sure days behind most of u guys) and let you know if it helped with my issues

cheers

I have both the 64 and the 128GB C300 and both have been updated to firmware 006. I have'nt experienced any stuttering maybe because I always secure erase the drive after every firmware update to make sure none of the old data would cause any issue with the OS. I also used the latest Iastor driver from intel.
