Follow up from a thread I did months ago...

I can't justify a brand new Air alas, but my 2006 MBP is still running like a champ but I fancy a bit of a boost - I've already maxed the RAM out so am thinking of dropping in a 120GB SSD in there (I only use the laptop for web surfing / iTunes and the original 120GB drive still has loads free on it)

I know that my hardware is only SATA I speed, but I've read that some SSD drives are a bit funny with bootcamp, I've done some web searching but can only find idle forum chat about it rather than a definative list.

Has anyone put an aftermarket SSD into their MBP and dual booted successfully ?

I have :)

I only made it work though by making the partition for windows BEFORE I installed osx. For some reason when ever I tried to use the bootcamp utility it just reused to make the space as it saw all the key osx files as "towards the end of the disc" and couldn't move them.

But once I noticed how it was being silly iv got my windows 7 partition made and can dual boot fine :)

Oh I put a 256gig c300 in my 09 mbp for reference, I don't think there are any SSD's out there that are just point blank being rejected by macs

Could I suggest you check out the Crucial SSD's on Overclockers all sizes are reduced now http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-009-CR&groupid=1657&catid=1660&subcat= on paper the statistics are noticably slower than various other SSD drives. Although in tests they have actually out performed other SSD Drives take a look here http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?p=20043730#post20043730 the SSD showdown! I also know they use the Marvell controller which is the most reliable controller so it seems. As for boot camping I'm not entirely sure, I placed a M4 in my MacBook it worked like a dream although since I just web brows on my MBP and listen to Music via iTunes it was a little waste and since I'm running an i5 in the 2011 I decided to sell it to my mate for the same price and hopefully when I need a SSD drive or fancy on they will have dropped even more in price.

Crucial appear to have the boot camp issue alas although I am actually wondering if it's that big of a problem.
