hello all
I'm just trying to check something. I bought a samsung ssd so I could clone a hdd to it and I had a adapter from years ago but it wouldn't recognise it so I bought a new 2 bay dock which also cant see it , I've already connected it to a desktop but it cant find a boot thingy which I suppose it wouldn't as it doesn't have windows on it yet. So what I'm just trying to do is make sure there's nothing else I can do before I get intouch with the seller.

any help gratefully received

Only your Bios and Device Manager needs to see SSD for the Software to clone it, if it is RAW and not been initialised Windows will not see it.

If it does not appear in your Device manager then its probably not seen in your Bios due to some setting but hard to tell from here, may be to do with Legacy Bios vs UEFI.

Thanks for the reply . But you've gone a bit technical on me , over the years with a number of hard drives I've just connected via my old adapter all ok now this did not work I bought a new one and it did not work , I've never played with bios or played with any settings to get it recognized just plug and play install new windows or backups etc . So not sure what I need to do now before I contact the seller

If the bios sees the drive and device manager also sees the drive just open up computer management, click on disk management and create a partition on the drive(that will probably show a raw partition), it will then appear under My Computer as usable space (a drive).

For convenience you can just plonk compmgmt.msc in a run box (Win+R) to get the computer management window up.
