Hi all,

I'm running an Asus N55SL on W8.1 and have upgraded the standard 5400 rpm mechanical drive for a crucial m500 480gb SSD. When running this laptop on battery it will die after any length of time whether the battery is on 90 percent or less without warning.

The laptop will power back on for about 5 seconds but will instantly die as if it has no power and can only be resumed once the charger is plugged back into the laptop. Event viewer says the system turned off unexpectedly.

Asus refuse to help me or diagnose the issue and simply want me to RMA it and say I will be charged if they find no fault. Well there's an ssd is there now and a mechanical works fine which is all that you're going to tell me....

Any ideas anyone, please not I also did not setup my ssd other than plug and play as with 8.1 people report it's all configured from the word go. Have I missed a setting somewhere or something?

its not putting the drive to sleep is it? just a thought

you can look in power saving profile/advanced for the hdd sleep and disable it then see what happens

usually it wont put the os drive into sleep state

Have you switched the old drive back in and tested it? If it still happens then RMA it as it's obviously not a fault of the SSD, if it doesn't then RMA the SSD.
