Hi i have a toshiba satellite pro A120 laptop

i recently purchased a crucial bx100 250gb SSD

when connecting via usb it does not show on my computer ?

Any ideas

my intention is to clone existing set up to it

Appreciate any help here

how can i initialize it if i cannot access it?
in disk management it just says "Generic external usb device" no spec or any way of interaction

Any access to a desktop PC? Connect it internally to the MB and asign new drive letter or initalise it in disk manager, thn connect it via the caddy to your laptop, its the only way I can think of

New problem,
I connected to desktop pc via usb, initialized drive
250g came up as 232g

after cloning laptop , drive is only 73g

any idea what went wrong in the cloning? should i have partitioned the drive before cloning?

you can expand the existing partion to fill all of the drive, can do that in disk manager I think,or windows own partition tool

250gb showing as 232gb is normal, its just the way windows calculates a gb

this laptop doesnt seem to allow much in disk manager.
looked at acronis, it find unlaocate 158g but no way to enable it

using windows vista

if you right click on the partition in disk manager it should give you the option to expand it

the partition that has windows cloned on it,expand it to fill the whole ssd

disk manager does not work on this computer just gives following message, so no partition option

Disk Management could not start Virtual Disk Service (VDS)
on computer. This can happen if the remote does not support VDS, or if a connection cannot be established because it was blocked by windows firewall.

tried it back in your desktop? it should let you,ive just checked on mine and it lets me (windows 7 though)

it only takes a blink of an eye to expand it with an ssd

Sorted :-)
