My Pc has started almost locking up but not quite can move mouse but clicking on stuff doesn't work, has blue screened once as well. if i just hit reset then the SSD gets removed from the boot list have to turn pc off then add it again in bios

what could be causing this? is a fresh install of windows likely to solve the problem?

Decided to just reinstall windows

While doing it ran into a problem where Windows refused to install on the SSD had to disconnect all other drives seemed ok then could be unrelated

anyway

1 hour after reinstall blue screen again and upon resetting SSD not detected have to power off PC to get bios to see it again

So... SSD at fault or MoBO?

EDIT*
when it crashes its not an instant blue screen any programs running lock up for 10-15 secs mouse moves ok then screen goes weird colours followed by bluescreen

Still crashing and removing SSD from boot list every hour or so:/

so cable/port wasnt the problem

if i try a normal HDD, and it still crashes i presume its likely to be the MoBO?

What SSD is it?

I put a Kingston HyperX 120GB SSD into the work PC I use and ever since I built it roughly a year ago it's had problems with occasional weird mouse movement (lack of responsiveness/jittering) and random BSOD as often as twice a day or as far apart as a week or so. The website says to update the SSD to the latest firmware due to BSOD issues, which I can't do as I can't wipe my OS drive due to important things on it and the PC always being in use every day. This could potentially be a similar problem for you though, so check the manufacturers website for firmware updates! :)

its a 64gb M4 i think there is a firmware update since i last bought it so will give it a try although it has been fine for 8 months

not overclocked

spec

is 750w thermatake toughpower PSU (this is about 3 weeks old was replacement from faulty RMA)
I3 CPU
MSI - Z68-GD55
