Hi all,

Trying to install farcry 3, the ubisoft installer unpacks to app data local.
The problem?
It gives up halfway as I only have 5gb free. on my 30gb SSD.

There is not option to unpack elswhere.

Is there an easy way around this?

Thanks,

Davey

Update:
I have asked ubisoft tech support, if I get a resolution I will update everyone.

Right click on computer, properties.

Advanced system settings, environmental variables.

Change the location of the TEMP and TMP folders from the default

%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Tmp

To something else like.

D:\Stuff\AppData\Local\Temp
D:\Stuff\AppData\Local\Tmp

Am not surprised it gives up half-way as my farcry 3 install is 10gb....;)

What do you expect ubisoft tech support to do about you not having enough free space..

Or do you been there is no option to unpack or install to a second HHD ??

It's a valid question he's asked because he probably has enough disk space on another drive for the game install BUT the installer itself requires temp space and this may not have been listed in the requirements. This can be really annoying I had a similar issue with a game recently, possibly Max Payne(?) or Mass Effect 3 something with a big footprint.

Anyway as suggested by another poster try moving your TEMP/TMP folders to another drive. If you only have a 30GB system drive I'd recommend doing that anyway.

Sorry everyone
I had not been on the forum for a bit, life getting in the way of my gaming.

My second drive is a 2TB samsung drive! ( I should have posted that in og pst)
And yes no option to unpack elsewhere.

The resolution was to copy the downloaded file onto my trusty 16gb usb3 stick, unpack on my laptop to the a hidden folder in app data IIRC.
Once this was done copy the contents of the unpacked data onto the usb stick and then install on main pc.

At this point it gave the option to then install.

Had this not worked I was going to create a symlink.

After all that the game would not run, after installing ubisoft player I got another issue. This was resolved by installing some NVidia stuff despite me having a amd card!

Running now, only played first bit though.

The reason for the small SSD is it has simply been ample for all media centre stuff with my 2tb hdd taking the media.
Anyhow this is slowly turning to a gaming pc so I will need to upgrade the SSD now I am installing more.

An amazingly complex and time consuming workaround when a 2 minute fix was posted 4 posts above yours :) Congrats on getting it working though!

haha yes I know, I think I got it working before that post, though it took a while to say the least.

If I had been patient and waited for a response I would have had an easier quicker fix. still very useful information as I am going to change my temp folder anyway tonight.
