Tryig to secure erase my vertex 2e with hdderase buts it's stuck in a frozen state. I've tried different sata ports an the boot without power to SSD but no luck.
I haven't got another system to boot it. Is there anything else I can try?
If you have the type of BIOS (I do) which can lock the SSD and thus can't erase it then you must remove not the power but the SSD connection lead prior to the BIOS posting.
BUT you must plug that lead back in once the BIOS has posted and before the PC boots into DOS and then start up HDDerase.
If you do not get you timing right either the BIOS will keep it locked or HDDerase will not see it.
When HDDerase sees the drive it will then bring up a selection to choose from. eg...
P0 = <then it will name your drive>
ensure other drives are disconnected as well then you do not erase them by mistake.!
Don't forget to make sure that your SSD Controller is set to IDE mode (from AHCI) within the BIOS or it will not work.
Thanks all. Yup both intel and marvell connections. Hdderase is no longer seeing the SSD so I obviously got the timing wrong when attempting the remove power method. Vimes I'll try your suggestion tomorrow when I get home.
