Hi there,

Just needed some more opinions on something . I have some old computer parts including an althon x2 6000+ 3.1ghz cpu that I am going to give to a mate to build a system for general use ( word, youtube etc.) My question is would it be a good idea to purchase a cheap ssd hard drive for the OS to use with a system like this or is the cpu too old to see the benefit from it.

The specs would be

6000+ althlonx2
2gb ddr2 800mhz ram
Amd 5850 graphics
30gb ssd?
250gb hdd

I think the cpu is about equal in performance to a q6600 from Intel but is only duel core.

yes get a ssd, I did this to a s939 x2 4200+ (only sata 2) and it made more difference to 'day to day' office tasks than upgrading to a higher spec cpu (i7 4790k) on a new rig. Obviously the i7 is faster but in day to day stuff like opening programs, using word etc there was very little gain made with the limited cpu usage of the programs, an ssd made a visible difference.

I'd also agree with getting another 2GB+ of ram if you can.

That's just what I wanted to hear. Very pleased to know that it worked out so well.

And thanks for all suggestions guys. SSD and 4gb ram it is :)

The Motherboard I will be using has a sata 3gbs which I think is the old name for sata2?

Am I right in thinking that anything over a sata2 ssd would be wasted? Its not a problem but perhaps makes the cheapest options the best ones to go for.
