Hi. i'm trying to conect to my uni's linux computers using ssh. I've downloaded ssh secure shell and have successfully connected but only by command prompt. i can tranfer files, list files and navigate directories. but i can't open up any windows to open files in say jedit.

if i typoe in JEDIT, it says no X11 display variable set. i've enable x11 tuneling and can't think of *** else i need.

anyone have any ideas? any help is appleciated.

ok I managed to get it work nearly. But now I have a new problem.

I can open programs and they open in their own window. Emacs and gedit work fine and i can write in them. Jedit however doesn't let me type anything and won't respond to mouse commands (although if i start trying to type it says "modified" on the top bar).

Any suggestions?

so is it specific to jedit? thing is i'm coding in antlr and there's no antlr for windows so I need to keep compiling and testing the file while i edit it. I'm nto going to send it to the linux computer every time i edit something I'll be here for days!
