I want to hide my SSID but when I do, my father cant connect via wireless. I have to keep the SSID broadcast enabled. I know that my wireless set-up works with out broadcasting the SSID as I have a laptop that works.

When the SSID broadcast is disabled, ive tried right clicking the wireless icon, and selecting wireless networks, and typing the SSID and key in, and restarted and still does not connect.

Now Ive gone back so at present ive got my SSID broadcast which is not great.

What version of windows is he using, On Vista I have click the TAB connect even if the network in not broadcasting.

I think theres something simular on XP can't remember the saying.

High, just checked my media center running XP.
I was thinking about the tick box option under wireless networks were you enter your pass code for athentication, there is a tab which says connection, the tick box says: connect when this network is in range.
Not sure if thats any help. :)

When you hide the SSID is just means you can't see it in the available networks.

What you need to do is manually force the network to connect to that connection. Write down the SSID or if you remember it go to the network connections in control panel, right click the wifi connection and then properties. Click the networks tab and manually add it there with encryption settings e.t.c. Reboot and your network should automatically connect to that network. If it does not then repeat and reboot again.

Yer, done that. Rebooted a number off times. It did work once but know its not connecting at all unless I have to SSID broadcast

Remove all them from the list and use the network setup wizard and reboot. You can find that

start > run > copy the following > hit ok

%SystemRoot%\system32\rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL NetSetup.cpl,@0,WNSW

It has to be something with what your configuring. I would start from scratch.
