Somewhere, in a field in cheshire... alright!
Hello

I switched to Windows 10 64 bit a couple of weeks ago and now I can't use the Royal Mail's Online Postage service. I've tried with Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome and Edge. They show the Royal Mail homepage but when I try to sign in it just shows 'This Page Can't be Displayed'. On Firefox it shows the message

'Secure Connection Failed

An error occurred during a connection to www.royalmail.com. SSL received a record with an incorrect Message Authentication Code. (Error code: ssl_error_bad_mac_read)

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
Please contact the web site owners to inform them of this problem'.

I've been in touch with Royal Mail but they say they've not had anyone else with this issue and suggested that its to do with Java (I'm running latest version) or the security settings on my computer.

Has anyone had this problem and found a solution please?

Thanks

Iggy

Windows fully patched?

The patches include updates to the root SSL's and intermediaries so if they've used a new supplier then it may not be on your system.

The time and date aren't wrong in BIOS or Windows. Is it not strange that whatever it is affects every browser? I've also noticed that google search doesn't work (I get a blank page) when it goes to HTTPS.

I'll post the solution from my link just in case you can't load it.

How to fix this problem? Secure Connection Failed, SSL received a record with an incorrect Message Authentication Code. (Error code: ssl_error_bad_mac_read)

That link works fine for me. I'm not seeing any error message.

What are the connection settings?

Tools > Options > Advanced > Network : Connection > Settings
https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Options+window+-+Advanced+panel
If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then try to select "No Proxy" if "Use the system proxy settings" or one of the others do not work properly.

Any internet security software running?

Thanks KIA, I've tried what you suggested but it's still the same problem. I have ESET NOD32 running.

You were right KIA, I uninstalled NOD32 and could use the Royal Mail site no problem. I've re-installed NOD32 and the site doesn't work.
Can I change something in NOD32 to get around the problem?

We're talking about ESET NOD32 Antivirus, not ESET Smart Security, right?
Do you have the latest version installed?

On the setup screen of NOD32, select Advanced setup.

Under Web Protocols, temporarily disable Enable HTTPS checking. See if this gets rid of the problem.

Yes that works, thanks KIA. Should I leave it checked until I need to use the Royal Mail website? Would it be advisable to notify ESET of the problem I've had so they can fix it?

Yes, contact their support department for assistance. Leave it enabled it if isn't too much of an inconvenience. Is it still affecting Google queries?

Google search seems to be ok now. I'll drop ESET a message and explain what's been happening. Thanks again KIA.
