Does anybody use SSL VPN's?

Am I right in thinking that if I want my remote users to use applications that are not web based they won't work for me?

I haven't looked at it for a while so I don't know if the technology has changed at all

use one here (mostly for web apps)

depends on the model really, the juniper we have supports network drives, but the the rest I think you have to use Citrix

as it happens it is the Juniper solution that I am looking into, so do you browse the network drives via a web interface?

that's a question!

As far as I can tell, it loads an applet to use it, unfortunatly the setup we have was implemented a long time ago, and I don't have access to the share so I can't test :(

edit/ Remote desktop is supported too, that loads a applet that integrates with the win xp one...

I've just had a look on the help file and it appears that it also supports client / server apps such as outlook / lotus etc - so it appears that it does some kind of port tunneling though an activex / java or client app

We have Fortinet devices at work. Their SSL VPN site gives you web apps, remote desktop in a java applet, SMB connectivity via web pages.
However you can also activate an SSL VPN tunnel that pushes an active X control or a Firefox plugin to the end clients browser, they then get a virtual network adapter and full layer 3 connectivity just like a normal VPN solution.
