Hi all,

I bought a b grade version of this from OCUK a few years ago. It was rated as being 80+ gold.
How does this stack up now compared to other new 1000w+ PSU's?

Also does the 80+ gold rating still mean the same as it did then?

It was a decent psu although it's been replaced by a newer model now. That doesn't mean it still isn't any good though. It's probably lost a bit of efficiency and power over time due to capacitor ageing but it's hardly stressed in your pc. I doubt if you would pull much more than 300w at the wall, even less if that 4790k isn't overclocked.

The 80+ ratings still mean the same now as they did then. To achieve 80+ Gold a psu has to hit 87% efficiency at 20% load, 90% at 50% load and 89% at 100% load.

Well that's good news to me. Although I'm running a 4770k not a 4790k. It's not oc'd. Assuming that would draw even less power. Nice to know that I have silly amounts of power to play with if I ever get to the point of crossfire on my rx480 8gb. I originally bought the PSU with the thought of a crossfire on my old 7850 1gb but was told vram was too low to think about it. I have the old PSU as a spare now in case the worst happens. That's a XFX pro 550w 80+ bronze.
