st georges day

I'd lik to see celebration for St George and St Andrew, but for the right reasons, not "because Ireland is doing it, so must we". It's stupid, and ruins the whole point.

I'd like to see a Winter Festival in Scotland from St Andrews Day through to Burns Night.

One thing I've never understood is why at sporting events, i.e. the current Cricket World Cup, the Scots get to fly the cross of St Andrew and we English still get stuck with the Union Flag!

It's the same in Formula 1, Coulthard has the cross of St Andrew displayed yet Button, Hamilton and the other guy all have the Union Flag even though they're English.

Works the same way when a scottish person has the union flag next to there name. Personally, coming from me,i think you should celebrate it and fly your white and red flags while i'll go fly my blue and white one...**** the PC bull****.

I think it's stupid that there are separate English and Scottish teams. It should be like the olympics where there is just a UK team.

dont you people have namedays? for example in greece on St.Georges day people named George/Georgia are taking out friends for a drink/dinner to celebrate etc. sth like birthdays

that helps keeping a nice tradition

tbh patrion saint (correct me if im wrong) brought religeon to our countries, which have cause probably the biggest problems this country has ever seen other than wars caused by nazis (which were practically religeon based -- jews etc) so i chose not to celebrate any of them, and tbh for those tha care for george do you honestly think he would want you geting wasted on his speshial day !!! think about it!

i dont think that religion should be held responsible for the actions of the church

You dont see many Union flags at English football games these days, thank god we've moved on.

Also I dunno about the Formula 1 thing, ITV had the Union flag next to Coulthards name, but I notice Coulthard had a helmet with the Scottish flag and Button had the Union rag on this. Hope he sorts that out. ;)

It's not like we celebrate any other Saints days though. St. Patrick's Day is only celebrated so widely because:

a) It's a Guinness-commercialised holiday and an excuse for people to get drunk for no real reason.
b) Being Irish is "cool", especially for Americans.

spot on, its just cheap guiness, its pay day, what can you sell on St Georges day that you dont sell every other weekend

if us actually split its states into countries it would actually be the new africa not before long (meant in a finacially way - it would have its rich and poor countries etc)

Yeah apparently California would actually be one of the richest countries in the world if that were to happen. If California would has that big a proportion of the US's wealth then some states obviously wouldn't fare so well.

Yeah that's true, even though the UK has been around longer than the US.

But why should the UK have special treatment by being able to have several teams where as other countries that also have multiple regions with differing cultural identities only get the one? It's not like the UK is the only country that has several nations.
