Hi all,

So I've got a new wrinkle which I've not come across before. My computer is currently bumbling along fine, but over the last few days it's developed a stuttering problem. It seems to come on randomly, and basically freezes up momentarily every few seconds. It affects whatever's running, be it a game, music, video or even the movement of the mouse. Programs will continue running and will respond after a short delay, but I can't seem to start any new programs. Sometimes it will right itself after a few minutes, other times it requires a restart, other times it carries on even after a restart (and won't let me boot Windows).
It looks like a hardware problem, but I can't figure out what's causing it. The occasional times I've been able to get into task manager, I've noticed that one of my two cores is running at 100% during these hiccups, with the other one barely doing anything. However, the timings of the freezes coincide with hard drive activity.
I've run a memory test and hard drive diagnostic, neither of which reported any problems. I tried changing SATA ports on my motherboard - it's too soon to tell if that's fixed it. Worryingly, some extra problems now seem to have crept into windows - a 'bad image' error in nvapi.dll when I try to run Trackmania, and some of my G15 LCD programs have gone missing.
Confused. I suppose the core issue is CPU usage, HD activity, and missing programs but if someone can make something of it, you're a better person than I.

Thanks for reading!

Nope! May be my next purchase tho :)
I've got a C2D E6600, a 1tb Hitachi SATA drive, 4gb ram in 1gb sticks, a GTX 260, a Xonar D2 and that's about all I can think of that matters.
