Stability Problems with new build (first build)

Hi there,

I recently took on my first ever build project last week. For this I ordered the overclocked bundle at 4.0Ghz which included

the Asus Rampage II Extreme Motherboard
i7 2.6Ghz @ 4.0 Ghz
6Gb of RAM
5970 Gfx card
Samsung Solid state drive
and a normal HDD

The system build went well enough with no problems and when i booted for the first time everything worked fine, the windows 7 install went well enough also.

Once i had the install complete i then inserted the Motherboard driver CD to be greeted with a message that the cd is not compatible with this OS. This caused me to panic a bit, but as everything seemed to be working okay i didnt think this would be a problem. I even went to asus support site and tried to download some drivers there myself but when i saw the list of stuff available for this board and for the windows 7 64 bit version it freaked me out. I have no idea which drivers out of the ones listed i would need. So again, as everything seemed to be working okay i left it.

Since then, the system has frozen quite a few times. I thought i had identified the problem as being Steam, but last night i left the PC on qhile downloading and woke up this morning to find it frozen. I also downloaded Prime95 to run a stress test and after a few seconds of testing the PC freezes every time.

ANy help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance

Posted a thread in Customer Service section also. As to my BIOS settings, im ashamed to admit that i have not got a clue. Really new to this and thought that this pc build would maybe give me the opportunity to learn, instead it has just gave me a massive headache and made me feel totally like a newb ><

This is the driver page im at http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

the problem is that i dont know which BIOS updates etc i should install and whether if i update the BIOS will this affect my OC? Yes i really havent got a clue so please suffer my ignorance with grace ;)

Yeah thats what i thought regarding updating the BIOS, had an inkling that if i done that then it would reset my OC, which is why i didnt do it. No idea why im crashing still, i ran an OCCT test and the pc crashed after about 5 mins and the screen went red, although the report stated that the problem was a blue screen of death, i have since tested the GPU which ran fine so it does seem its a problem with the memory or the cpu. Going to run memtest now.

Loaded up the default BIOS and things seem to be working fine. That says to me that it is a problem with the overclock. Ran stress tests all night without a system crash or it freezing whereas with the overclocked BIOS it would freeze after less than a minute stress testing.

Any ideas what steps i should take from here?

Thanks,
