So I have BT but it's very slow (20 mbps) but I've never had any issues with it. Thinking about getting Virgin 500 mbps, but afraid they have a very rubbish service.

Being afraid of finding out doesn’t make a lot of sense based on the information provided - VM have a 30 day satisfaction guarantee last I looked, it costs you nothing other than time to find out - you can even leave your existing service running if you need to.

Bear in mind the people complaining about Virgin are only getting 200-250Mbps on a promised 500Mbps. 200Mbps vs. 20Mbps....

Yeah if I was paying £60/month for a 500mbps, I'd be very annoyed getting 200mbps.

is there any advantage getting a business package, maybe better contention?

No, the business service is arguably worse than the residential one - there's no network segmentation as it's not possible to do, and the provided cable modem is awful.

If my choice was between 20Mbps FTTC and VM I'd give VM a try. I'd probably not cancel the BT service until Virgin was installed though, and make sure I kept an eye on the cooling off period.

How would it work. Would VM install a cable next to my BT cable?
