Stable E8400 settings

Right then. First week of exams are over and i've found a couple of hours 'spare' that I'd rather like to get the most out of my new cpu with. Tried cheekily on my second boot with the new core to get 3.8ghz out of it (took me a half hour to get the ac cpu cooler in so i figured i'd give it a shot) but to no avail.

So. Using my spec below. Who can guess / use their wide knowledge of overclocking to suggest the best settings for a decent, stable oc? :D

Urm i have the E8200 (and a 400w ethermax psu too) and mine booted to 3.8 pretty much instantly (well it took half an hour for me to brave it but i had just flown back for a day trip effectivly). Any way have you got your ram set to 1:1 with the cpu frequency (keeps the ram speed down a bit.)? Secondly are you running 4 1gig sticks of ram 9if so you need to put a little more voltage thought the northbridge like +0.1 or something). Finally you probably want to up the ram and cpu voltage a wee bit (though its best to work out when to do this by slower settings and building up to it).

Go go go overclock!

Just been trying now. Doesn't like it, just tried to reboot about 6 times then eventually started again with default settings. Had that problem with the E2200, nice little feature on the ds3r (or all mobos?) it seems to wipe the cmos, or atleast the most recent settings. Any other thoughts?

Oh, and what are the average temps for the e8400 on load? Just making sure the actual cpu is ok by running prime95 on torture, and the temps are between 53-58 celsius on 100% load.

hey Int... how many volts are you running urs...

I have the exact smae specs with you and I need 1.275v min for stability

1.245V for 3.6Ghz (400*9).

I've managed to get to 3.8 on 1.245V but I've had a couple of BSODs and it seems no amount of volts will let me stabilise at 3.8 :(

hmm... no 1.245 doesnt work for me... alhtough my psu always undervolts the cpu.. 1.25 gives me around 1.20 ~ 1.22 at best

9x400 as well... which gives an fsb of 1600... I only tried once going over that but my mems freezed at 417 and then I just couldnt be bothered again.

anyways... I am having major probs with Vista so I cant afford an overclock...
dont really know y

anyways.... tnx for the info ;)

4Ghz (445x9) here at 1.296v although it seems I have a good example as most need 1.4v or more for 4Ghz.

Max temp under load according to CoreTemp last time I tried it was about 68C but got water coming soon to sort that out :)

Been solid as a rock for months now, not had a single problem.

I managed to get 4Ghz (445*9) at 1.305V, however despite being system stable, it would lock up my entire pc when running orthos :(

Hello m8y -

I have about lost all patience with this cpu, 3.8 and many many hours later and thats my lot i reckon :)

3.8mhz / volts - 1.2320

425.01 x 0.9

FSB - 1700

CPU Temp = 34 oC with Tuniq Tower (running very loud the damn thing!)

1400 on 3dMark 06

Happy with that and games run fine ,job done!

Oh my God.. this turning into an oc thread and it's probs my fault,

but to the matter.... sixpack u gonna need far more volts togo higher than that and still be stable..

up to 1.35v you are easily safe.. and don't forget to up motherboard's volts as well.

Well Mine is

Bios 1.39
Windows 1.38
Load 1.36

450x9 = 4050

You upped any other voltages in the BIOS ?

I've only messed with CPU and DDR2 voltage !!

I'm running 425 x 8.5 with ram @ 1-1 giving me 450mhz ram speed ( stock is 400 ) I will post cpu voltage later as I'm on another pc.

I can get into windows at 4ghz but the voltage increase gives me 60 degree+ load temps during games and it crashes a few times during gaming.. I've not had one crash at 3825 mhz so I think I will stay put..

Got mine yesterday, Installed Windows then straight in at 3.6 (400x9) wasnt stable with default 1.15v so upped him to 1.2v (1.184v according to CPUz).
Max temp 51`c after 8 hours of Orthos.

Will try for 4Ghz later :D

Stepping: Q810A059

Mine hasn't been an overly succesful experience. Only getting 3.5GHz out of mine.

389 * 9 = 3501
1:1.2 ratio
933MHz Geil (has Orthos'd fine at 1000MHz for an hour, so not the ram)
CPU: 1.3v
Memory: 2.2v
VTT FSB: 1.35v
NB: 1.45v
SB I/O: 1.8
SB Core: 1.15v

C0 stepping
