Stable in everything but games?

If your board has overclocking it should have at least basic controls, or options for CAS etc. Alternatively if it doesnt reset the BIOS with load optimal/safe defaults or the like and see if either change those values. Power/RAM are your issue not the CPU methinks.

Got a 480W CM psu - Im not short on power, got 2 and a half times more than I need :p

The RAM was a cheapo budget stuff, but I didnt see the point in spending a tonne on dead hardware.
That said, I still havent upgraded :(

Ok looking at the manual (see page 86, latest revision from website) go to the advanced tab, then chipset, then set configure DRAM timings by SPD to manual.

You should then get DRAM cas# down to DRAM Burst length.

Change the first 4, they should be in the same order I listed above so cas 3, ras 4, cas 4 and prechange 8.

 Did nothing but cause a bluescreen about 20secs after each boot

Somethings still not happy then. Do you have a RAM Divider option?
Sometimes called FSB:RAM divider/ratio?

If you do, set it so the RAM is run at a lower speed, ie 5/3 or similar so the RAM is not being pushed as hard. From what you've said it definately sounds like your RAM is involved in the issues you're having.

If its a small menu under an advanced tab, perhaps take a picture with a digicam so we can see your settings, it might be a case of some of them are round the wrong way, or your other settings are out. Also check your voltages are still right :)

Have you also considered trying just one RAM stick at a time, (you said you had 2 didnt you?) incase you have a faulty/weak stick?
