Might be bit of a silly question but i have a 2.5kw electrical heater that has a broken thermostat and currently use a remote control socket to switch it on and off.

I also want to use a timer socket, so i guess the timer socket plugs in first, then the remote socket, then the heater plug. Both sockets are rated at 3kw.

Will this be safe or is it too risky?

I've actually been thinking about doing that, never owned one before but are they good? how often would you say it loses connection?

Yes, running about 8 around the house. Assuming your WiFi is okay, and where you're plugging in isn't out of reach then shouldn't lose connection.

You also have much greater flexibility than most traditional timers. I.e. if your daily usage varies then you can set a schedule accordingly.
