Looking for some advice from anyone that lives in/near Stafford.

I'm off to Stafford next month with a couple of mates to pay respects to our old Army buddy who's buried there. I'm looking at hotels and have found the Premier Inn (Hurricane) one as it's not far to the cemetary, we're only staying one night so nothing too fancy required! Is this ok to stay at and be able to travel into the centre for food and beers?

Hey there :-)

I haven't used any Stafford hotels as I live here, but my parents have used the Premier Inn that you had suggested and also the Travelodge (Stafford Central) when they've come to see me. They can vouch for both, although they may be a bit too far to walk it to town and back, so best to taxi it.

As you mentioned food/beers, there are a fair few places to visit around the high street. The Vine, the Yard, Coach & Horses, the Bear Grill, Hogarths (which I keep misreading as Hogwarts!), the Bird in Hand, the Nag's Head. There is also a microbrewery called the Floodgate then you got your usual Weatherspoons and Vodka Revolution as eating out places too.

@Mrs Seabiscuit - good shout Seabiscuit! Had a couple of works do's there, but I always needed a lift because it's a bit far out of Stafford.

@drakulton - yeah the Swan is nice too, again had some works do's there and they also do afternoon tea. The Swan is pretty weird in a nice way in that it has a wide paved middle corridor to make it look like an indoor street. Then you have around 5 break-out rooms to the left and right of the corridor that serves different purposes e.g. pub area, bar, tea room, dining area and so on. It is on the posher side, but it is central.

Stafford nightlife isn't that great though if you're looking for places that stay open past midnight. There's always been 2 concurrently running nightclubs. The 1st one, on Newport Road, has always been the same venue, just had name changes over the years and is currently called Club Couture. The 2nd club has been a few different venues/names, but has always served as a 2nd concurrently running club for Stafford and the current one is called Club Casa on the high street. We did very briefly had a 3rd concurrently running nightclub which lasted for about 4 months, called Charisma, but it promptly got closed down because the Stafford Borough/County Council didn't like dance music.

They used to do lovely Wimpys at Casa.

Unfortunately, Tillington Hall was demolished fairly recently to make room for more houses presumably.
