Hi, I want to go to Staffs this year but I can't find any information about accommodation fees. Has/Is anyone on here at Staffs uni and living in halls? I just want opinions on living conditions and prices.

Thanks.

The halls were fine in the first year. As long as its the newer halls and not Yarlet (its a bit pick n mix)

I had non en suite so 7 flats to 2 bathrooms, which worked fine or the en suites were also fine, if a little smaller overall because of the bathroom sectioned off in the corner.

Generally they are well maintained and perfectly reasonable to live in.

Yarlet halls are much older, you get larger rooms but they really arn't as nice.

Theres ample free parking around the halls if you have a car and the uni itself has TONNEs of free parking (thing i miss the most)

From the second year onwards Stafford accomodation in general is.. ok. Its cheap but if you want a house with 4+ bedrooms then unless your very quick the choices can be a bit nasty.

i should also point out if your a nights out person, unless your willing to travel to Brum or Manchester (bout an hour on the train for both) then Staffs very quickly gets very boring.. there are about 4 clubs, all not exactly fantastic. The union tries hard but doesnt always cut the mustard and the local bars and pubs are all a bit... local!

I was very glad when my 3 years were up :)

Saying that the uni itself did me very well and is the reason i am doing what i wanted to do but couldn't because my A-Levels let me down.

price wise I paid £1800 for the years non en suite accom. En suite was around £2200 iirc. But that was 5 years ago so I would imagine add about 15-20% now.

Anything else just ask :)

Good advice there from Manic Man, I'll stress the fact that the nightlife there isn't amazing... But when there's a bit of a group of you the SU is usually a good night out.

There is also Stoke and Wolverhampton nearby for nights out, half an hour by train and a taxi home, whereas if you were to go to brum or manchester then you'd most likely have to hang around until the first train home (or leave early, whichever you rather).

Lived in halls last year, was good fun, everything was well maintained and it was a good place to live, lovely and close to the Uni and Student Union too.

The regulations on cleaning your flat are amusing at times, I failed every single room inspection due to having sock fluff on the carpet that the crap hoover we had wouldn't suck off. Saw our cleaner in Weatherspoons last week, she looked so pleased when a huge load of us all waved at her (she hated us - all our flats were constantly a mess)

Second year accommodation from what I have seen is pretty good, got a nice house for 5 of us the far side of town, its inconvenient with getting to uni, but its a really nice big house, its cheap and its in a quiet area meaning when you really need to crack on with work its not too much of a distracting area to live in. Really need to crack on myself.

Night life in Stafford itself is ok if your a "go in the pub for a few pints" type person, or if your happy to go around mates for partys. No decent clubs though, Zanzibar is an overpriced hole, except on a Tuesday when its student night and drinks aren't stupidly priced.
Heading over to Hanley for nights out is good, am yet to develop the need for something more as I'm quite happy to go in the Pub for a few pints, rather than a club for expensive pints of crap lager/cider out of plastic glasses.

I know Psypher5 on here is currently in Halls, so I'll point him at this thread.

Hey thanks for the great responses there guys, but I should have made it clear I'm going to be studying at the stoke campus and not the stafford one. :o

stoke campus

Clarice Cliff Court; 297 rooms; on campus; en-suite; Single rooms only; £85 p/w £3230 p/a

Leek Road Halls; 569 rooms; on campus; shared facilities; single rooms - £63 p/w £2394 p/a; twin rooms - £40 p/w £1520 p/a

Leek Road houses; 191 rooms; on campus; shared facilities; single rooms only £63 p/w £2394 p/a

There are also two other locations off campus.

Totally different kettle of fish the Stoke campus.

This is all personal of course, but... Stoke is a heap imho. HOWEVER they are trying very hard with their student population, even trying to define a "student village" around the uni campus.

Th Stoke union is very big and actually quite good, not as sure about Stoke nightlife but i doubt it can be as quiet as Stafford.

AFAIK the accomodation at Stoke is much older than the Stafford courtyard halls, but I have never been in any of them so can't say much more other than that.

Try and go to the Stafford campus if you can ;)
