So I'm getting married this year (que the "You're making a huge mistake" comments) and my best man and I have decided that Dublin is the place for us.

We've booked most stuff already like Go-Karting, Virtual Golf, Whiskey Tour and the ol' Guinness Storehouse but wanted to see if anyone here knows of anything else we should do and what bars / clubs to visit or avoid!

Thanks :D

My Nephew went last year with about 20 others for a Stag Do and when they went down to Temple Bar every bar/pub refused to let them in so be careful.
They ended up drinking in the less busy bars North of the river.

As soon as you get to Dublin, get a bus/train/taxi to the Airport and get on a flight to Amsterdam.

Two things already mentioned are certain.

Very expensive place to drink - i remember going in 1998 to Dublin and was stunned at the prices then!! went back last year and it's still increasing!!!

stag do's/hen do's are very very hard work to get into the same place in Dublin/Temple bar etc. There has been a massive clamp down on them.

Been in Dublin loads of times. Great spot but as others have said it is expensive - though the exchange rate might currently ease that expense a bit. Be warned though, temple bar area is bunged and as said above large groups of males (stags/birthday parties) will find it hard getting in.

There was a push a few years back to curb the stag do crowds that arrived every weekend trashing bars and clubs.

Cheapest place we found to drink in was actually the Hard rock, they were doing half price pints of guinness that weekend I think.

Also drank in the Bull and Castle a few times which was a good pub, and visited the obvious Temple bar ones.

Not been myself but going in May but what I have been told Temple Bar is expensive (about 6-7 euros) compared to where all the main clubs are in Harcourt Street.

Recommendations I have had are Xico and Bronze no idea how good these are as I have never been.

Also Temple bar shuts down at 2:30am and clubs in Harcourt open to 4-5:30am.

Did not know about large group in temple bar being turned away saying that though will be about 13 of us and mixture of male and female.

I'm pretty sure in Temple Bar the prices of drinks go up every hour.
I might have dreamt that though.

Yep in the Temple Bar area they tend to increase the price later in the night hoping you won't notice.

Basically stay well away from Temple Bar - it's a tourist trap. Spend 5mins walking in any direction away from it and you find better places to Drink, and they'll be cheaper too.

Nate

I have been told from someone in Dublin price usually increases from 10/11pm at night as bar usually turns into Nightclub prices.

Dublins brilliant :Dbloody expensive but brilliant. Been loads of times, went for st Patrick's day a couple of years ago and going again this year!!

Sorry to hijack the thread abit does anyone know a good hotel to stay at got recommendations of Jury Inn about £450 for 3 nights though so fairly expensive?

Jury's Inn is a Premier Inn sort of place worth about 60 quid a night (Perhaps a bit nicer but not hugely) so it's fairly terrible value for money at £450 for 3 nights. I'd be very disappointed to pay that to stay there.

There are two Hilton's in Central Dublin both of which are obtainable for under £100 a night depending on when you go. One is near the Gaol and is in walking distance to the Guinness Storehouse, the other is the other side town but has a Luas station next door. Either would be a far better use of a £450 budget for a 3 night stay.

Last time we went we stayed in one of the Crowne Plazas for a hilarious £50 a night - very nice hotel too - but I had my car with me so location wasn't critical and neither are very central so probably of no use.

Temple bar is fun. And can;t quite remember the name, Old Bank maybe? Anyway great for a first pint, old bank (obviously) converted to a bar :)

Thanks for the input guys! I do know that it's expensive but the guys and I are happy to pay!

I have heard that Stag / large groups are sometimes denied access to certain pubs and clubs. Is this true?

I don't know why everyone thinks Dublin is £LOL expensive to drink it, once you take the exchange rate in to consideration it's not more expensive than drinking in somewhere like London.

Top tip, don't bother with strip clubs if that's your thing. You'll be lucky to see nipple.

€6 is around £4.50 at the moment so it's pretty much London prices.

I know other places are cheaper but I was limited to places in the UK because some of my annoying friends don't have passports!
