Seen this on another forum and thought I would post here.

Looks insane, see here

Obviously, the main concept behind the game is pretty much clear if you can see its name. It just speaks for itself. The fact that such game exists is quite an event. It doesn't really matter what's behind the name or if the game is playable at all. The concept is enough. Simply makes your brain explode.

Meanwhile, we decided to move a little bit further than making up a bizarre concept and product's weird name. Stalin vs. Martians is also a good real-time strategy game. Probably one of the best in years and years. You can quote us on that.

The game is more or less plot-driven, so we're working on a script wild enough to fit into our concept. In short, the outline looks like this:

Year 1942. Summer. The martians suddenly land somewhere in Siberia and attack the glorious people of Holy Mother Russia. It is a hard time for USSR as you might know from the history books if you ever attended school. The situation is really ****ed up, so comrade Stalin takes the anti-ET military operation under his personal control. The operation is a top secret and virtually nobody knows about the fact of extraterrestial intervention.

— Well, that's it. Under the Stalin's command we must take control over Red Army forces and kick some alien ass. What shocks the most is that the martian forces look like a gay parade of Nintendo-styled cartoonish creatures.

It's coming out next month.

From the FAQ:

Vopros: Is that a late April Fool's Day joke?
Otvet: We used to make jokes not only at the first day of April, but all the time. We do understand that you can't understand how anything like Stalin vs. Martians can exist. But the game is real. It is in development, it will be released, you can buy it and drool on it for months. That's what makes the project THAT important. It is here and now, and it is absolutely unique.

Vopros: You say that Stalin vs. Martians is probably the best real-time strategy title of the year. Are you serious?
Otvet: C'mon, don't be so boring. Of course we're serious.

Vopros: If you were Stalin for one day, what would you do?
Otvet: Your mom!

Vopros: Are you communists?
Otvet: Don't be stupid, all Russians are communists!

The trailer is amazing, i'm all hyped up lol :)

I don't actually know what to say here, but if this is half as good as the concept is ridiculous/funny, it'll be worth a try. :D

I emailed the FAQ team about the game and I got a quick reply

Q: Will this game be priced like a regular game or will it be fairly cheap?

Also, will this be released on steam?

A: We need to finalise this stuff, but we were talking to Paradox (our publisher) about $19.99/19.99 Euros. I think it is reasonable pricing. Especially for a game which is better than Starcraft 2. Well, in a way.

Yeah, it will be on Steam.

Q: well i'm in the UK so would that be £19.99 or £14.99?

I was under the impression that this game was just a bit of a muck around, for a bit of fun, 6 months to a year in development... Is it actually a full game with a campaign, multiplayer, multiple units (seems there was only tanks/infantry in the trailer) and a few years in development?

A: I'm not sure about digital distribution for the UK, hope it will be equivalent of 19.99 Euros, not £19.99, which is simply unfair.

Yes, the game spent less than a year in development, but you should note that it was so fast because of the established RTS-pipeline and the fact that we use Blitzkrieg II engine and don't actually write everything from scratch.

SvM has full campaign, multiple units (few types of tanks, couple of infantry types, Katysha rocket launchers, mobile artillery), offmap abilities (like air raids), music video intermissions. But no multiplayer. No one really needs multiplayer in a game, well, called Stalin vs. Martians.

They have been developing it for a while, 3 teams are actually working on it but they seem to be able to do so quite well. It is also being published by Paradox Interactive so chances are I will pick it up.

The Stalin unit sounds excellent as well towards the end of the game:p.

Those big green three eyed guys are swiped from Toy Story :)

Gotta admire the cheekiness, especially with this comment :

"I think it is reasonable pricing. Especially for a game which is better than Starcraft 2. Well, in a way."

I'm sorry... but amusing videos aside this looks absolutely appalling. What they're selling here is a shot of hype and humour enveloped in a bubble of quirkiness which will probably pop round 15 minutes after the game is loaded.

£15 for a game that looks like it was made 10 years ago and features the least even remotely threatening aliens in the known universe? Yeah, that'll be fun to play. Not.

I'm not sure you're entirely getting the point of this game - the aliens aren't supposed to be threatening, they're supposed to be fun - that's the whole reason behind this game, surely?

Of course I get the point... it's hardly rocket science... what i'm saying is that it's very likely NOT going to be fun for the reasons I outlined. Realistically, I think once the novelty value wears off you will be left with a dated looking game with rubbish enemies. I just can't see the appeal with the game... only with all the marketing spiel surrounding it.
