stalker, beginners help lol

ok i just installed stalker, running well at about 50-60fps but anyway...

i'm still not sure how to work everything, i don't understand the artifacts and all, and also what is with it when you're running and there's a load of beeping and if you don't move quick you lose a good bit of health? sorry i know i should have read the manual a bit more but i didn't see much on this.

also is it just me or is it really hard to hit enemys/the take a lot of hits, maybe that's just me from playing css so much.

any advise would be great. please no spoilers lol.

EDIT: oh yea i'm playing on xp, i've tried on vista but it crashes when i go to save and xfire askes me to sent a report or something :confused:

i had a look on google but found no answer
