STALKER: Clear Sky 'Complete' keeps crashing. anyone have a solution?

the game has been running as flawlessly as any other stalker game i've used. there's the usual framerate hitches every now and then but otherwise its been fine until now.

whenever i try to load any save file in the Limansk area except for the autosave when i first entered the area it will crash and leave me with a black screen which i can only get out of by doing ctrl + alt + delete and ending the xray engine's process. depending on how i try to do the part of the first mission in Limansk it occasionally crashes mid missionin the same way as it does on load.

does anyone have any suggestions as to what i could do to stop the crashing b because this far into the game i would hate to not be able to continue
 
I had this on two if my three play throughs. Couldnt do a thing about it. I read somewhere that you can try using previous saves before you get to that area, or try moving out of that area, saving then trying again.
 
moving out of the area, saving, then trying again hasnt worked. the damned thing crashes on loading the quicksave by the bridge at the red forest.

my nearest save to that point is a good couple of hours back because i usually use quicksave, so i hope i dont have to use that one
 
WOOT! after some googling 'SPG' from the steam forums has saved my bacon. completely ignoring the team your with and the bandits they are interrogating and just killing the ambush on your own makes the game run OK and the saves work

i'm officially a very happy bunny :D

aaaaaaand the crashing is back. after wiping out and looting about a million people and then selling on my gear i ran out of people with money on them to sell stuff to so i headed back for the scientists base since that was the closest place with people i can sell stuff too. the game crashed while trying to transport me down the path from the red forest to the scientists base and will not load any of my quicksaves in the red forest.

anyone got any solutions to this one other than completely redoing about 5 hours of gameplay? (my most recent save that hasnt been overwritten)
 
i didnt realise it but i saved just before i went back to the scientists camp, so i can carry on from there thank god.

thanks for the forum link arc@css, it should come in very handy when i inevitably crash again
 
I had a few problems like this & found the thing that made the big difference for me was strangely turning the graphics settings up, I have no idea why but it seemed to make a difference.
