Has anyone got this to run reasonably well? It just seems all over the place. DX10 seems completely broken, very low GPU usage even in DX9 also, I've turned most of the settings off that would cause problems but it still seems jittery and slow. This is without any mods. I'm using a GTX 680.

The XRay engine, as beautiful as it is, has always been finicky like this. CS was always the worst/most demanding of the three unfortunately.

Are you basing this on performance at the clear sky base, or do you mean in general? I found my 4870X2 / GTX 480 and current card, a 7970, handle it well for the most part. Obviously, the 7970 handles the demanding cs base area the best, so I would have thought your 680 should deliver around the same performance.

Perhaps try turning down AA if you haven't already?

Sorry for not getting back to you by the way, but I was too busy at the time. If you want, just list your settings in a thread at your convenience (I'm a bit anti-social when it comes to steam). :D

Yeah the clear sky base and then the swamp area just after, Even on the lowest settings the fps is choppy, I've ran the Clear Sky benchmark on the highest possible settings and It runs completely fine so I'm not sure what the problem is. I am using the GOG version of the game but I don't think that would have any effect on it. I'll try reinstalling It and playing around with it a bit more.

No problem, http://enbseries.enbdev.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=2008&start=20#p48877 There is other settings you can play around with but this is where it started. Follow brussell's instructions.

As mentioned above Clear Sky has always been the most problematic. Try messing with the Sun Ray settings if you haven't already, I'm sure I read somewhere before, possibly a mod that the engine in Clear Sky still tries to render them from the light source even when they aren't visible, thus giving you a performance hit for no reason. This might all be complete nonsense but it always seemed to work for me. Sun Rays don't even effect performance for me in COP, even heavily modded, just Clear Sky for some reason.

It might also be all the AI straining the performance, I remember there being a lot going on at times in the background, far more than the other games. That first area in the swamp calms down after a little while so it could just be that. The actual base itself tends to give bad performance anyway, lots of shadows, light sources and crazy amounts of sun rays get thrown in there at times.

Yeah, the swamps and cs base are really the only demanding bits, I think. I can't remember exactly what settings I used, but I think I ran between no AA / FXAA and 2 x MSAA, depending on the moment (everything else maxed). It depends on what fps you can tolerate; I didn't mind the drop too much at the base because, relatively speaking, I didn't spend that long there, where as the swamps was a different matter altogether (combat, etc).

Also, I think it was optimized for ATi cards at the time, though I wouldn't have thought that it mattered so much now?

Thanks for the link. :)
