Stalker COP ABR mod - too easy?

The news of Stalker 2 got me into the mood to play some Stalker and i opted for this mod after seeing it featured in PC gamer. The gfx look really nice and along with the music and ambient sounds it creates an awesome atmosphere.

The only problem for me is that it's way too easy.. I haven't played Stalker for ages, but I always remember it being pretty hard. So I don't know if I just got good at FPS games, or this mod is too easy.

I pretty much had a top of the range assault rifle within a few minutes that i found on a dead NPC and I can just kill anything with ease. I remember there being a really hard mission where some Mercs tell you to **** off and then if you attack them a massive battle kicks off which took me ages to beat. Whereas in this mod I just stood at the fence and popped the mercs one by one as they appeared at the doorway..

Theres also a severe lack of enemies in COP. This is why I much prefer clear sky as there just seemed to be way more enemies and the different factions made it far more interesting.

Is there another mod I could try for COP, or any decent mods for clear sky?

Thanks, I seem to remember this mod popping up a lot in Stalker threads. Does misery change the graphics as well? I want it to look good as well as being a challenge.

I'll get it downloaded now and give it a try later on. I think the other mods I tried was Atmosphere 3, absolute nature, absolute structures and arsenal overhaul, but I never really gave it enough time to see what it was like, would it be worth trying Misery instead of these?

Misery is a complete overhaul, as well as making it much harder (stalker hardcore mode I would say) it changes the graphics to a much more desolate look. It also adds many extra features which add to the whole experience.

The mods you listed are only visual or weapon overhauls (arsenal overhaul) so very different to misery.

Playing through misery and call of misery have been some of the best gaming I've ever had.

I've only played a little of ABR but I can see where you're coming from. Like the Special Edition mod for COP, ABR adds a nice level of polish for those not wishing to deviate too far from a vanilla experience, and although I've yet to play another one called 'Reboot', I wouldn't be surprised if that's along similar lines, too.

As mentioned, for a more hardcore gameplay experience try Misery 2.2 or Last Day. The latter is supposed to be the most challenging mod around for Stalker at the moment. I've yet to try Call of Misery and Echo of Misery.

There is also a very nice graphics only overhaul mod (COP Remake) which I'd like to piece together with some smaller gameplay mods to adjust things like trading, but I've yet to get around to experimenting with that.

I've got videos on my channel of both the Remake mod and Last Day, though the LD one has poorer production values as I couldn't get OBS to record it reliably, if at all. You're welcome to take a look at those and other Stalker mods on there if you wish. :)

Thanks for the suggestions, i'll give your videos a watch later. Last day sounds very interesting, might have to give that a try at some point.

Spent a few hours on misery and so far so good. It's a bit daunting with all the different loot items and not having a clue what to do with them. Definitely harder combat and survival wise, but I don't know if I'm a fan of the food, drink and meds being so expensive. It seems like most of the money earned for a job goes on food, anti radiation tobacco and water. I'll have to put a few more hours in and see if it gets too grindy.

I saved up some cash and bought a semi decent AK that can take a scope. Much better than just finding a top tier weapon immediately like in the ABR mod. Back down to 0 coin, so need to save up again for some better armour next.

Going to give last day a go. I do like misery, but I want to try a few mods before doing a full playthrough.

Edit: Yeah, thats a bit too hardcore for me... Think I'll stick with misery for now.

Thread revival.

Would you say "Remake" that was released this year is the best visual only mod for CoP? I want the vanilla experience with better graphics for now.

Unless you can recommend any must have bug fix and quality of life mods?

Yeah, I took a look at this a little while back and although it made a nice change, I prefer the look of the original enemies/monsters.

You might be better off checking out something like Stalker 2K or Last Day/Anomaly mods (Anomaly is simply a tweaked version of Last Day).

I'm playing the Anomaly mod at the moment and for me, it strikes a great balance between quality and quantity. Very tastefully done indeed, IMO.

Anomaly looks interesting, does that run vanilla story line or is it open world?

I also for the life of me can't force vsync, tried using Radeon tools and various options in game. Problem is even at ultra wide 3440x1440 I'm hitting 130-150fps and it's cooking my Vega. 60fps locked would mean it'd run cool as a cucumber.

The anomaly mod is open world with not as many maps as say Stalkersoup, but it still has quite a few. There is a storyline though I've not started that side of things yet. I'm just visiting each area first to get a look and feel of the work involved before beginning the main quest.

Wouldn't something like MSI Afterburner allow you to cap your fps?

I'm so glad i made this thread as Misery quickly became on of my favourite mods I have ever played. I kinda gave up after a few hours, but kept having the urge to re-install it and give it a proper go. So glad I did as I then got totally imersed and couldn't stop playing after that. I must have racked up 80+ hours lol.

I think now that I have got used to Misery it might be time to give one of the more hardcore mods a try, so I might give Last day another try soon.
