stalker crash

Hi there, i just downloaded stalker from steam, but the problem is i can get into the menues but the minute i try to start a game when its loading it comes up with some bug error and puts me back to windows.
Any ideas? im on XP?

Is the version on steam pre-patched to 1.04?

i dont really know, but it says its upto date when u go to update it? :confused:

I just clicked on verify integrity of game cache and now its updating something again, so looks like it hadn't downloaded properly or something?
